In.Media.Res – Integration Mediation Responsibility (Integrazione Mediazione Responsabilità)

Description

InMediaRes aims at overcoming the barriers to the socio-educational inclusion of newly arrived migrant minors with third country citizenship. The project conceives intercultural mediation as a multi-stakeholder process aimed at increasing the inclusion capabilities of the host community. Teachers, educators and public/private local actors are provided with the right tools and information to activate adequate educational and professional paths for migrant children. The methodology provides for the implementation of a model that integrates intercultural mediation, ethnopsychology, cultural anthropology, migration law and educators’ experience. The goal is to create a “community of practice” through the collaboration of different actors, the creation of networks, and the sharing of good practices and knowledge. Among the actors involved, there are schools, public institutions, cultural mediators, families, educators, and children. The main activities include, e.g., field testing of an integrated territorial system to support non-Italian minors to access schools; trainings about psychological, ethnopsychological and cultural tools for the management of multicultural classes; creation of an online sharing point; and the implementation of a reception system with personalized educational paths for minors and support to migrant families. Financed with EU funds (FEI 2012), the project was implemented in Turin province during the school year 2013-14.
