Enhancing socio-educational integration of refugee and migrant children through research

Insights from the H2020 IMMERSE and H2020 REFUGE-ED projects

The successful integration of migrants, refugees, and their children is a pivotal element for the future well-being, prosperity, and social cohesion of European societies. Acknowledging this critical need, two influential Horizon 2020 projects, IMMERSE and REFUGE-ED, have come together to host a joint final conference.

IMMERSE has focused on co-creating a set of indicators, constructing an online digital database of best practices, conducting qualitative and quantitative data collection, and generating policy recommendations for the socioeducational integration of refugee and migrant children , while REFUGE-ED has promoted effective practices which have already proved to lead to social impact in education and mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), like the Successful Educational Actions (F6 INCLUD-ED).

Both have generated new scientific knowledge through intense co-creation methodological approaches involving major stakeholders including migrant and refugee families and children. Together, these projects represent a comprehensive effort to inform the integration landscape in Europe based on research evidence. As Europe grapples with the challenges of integration, particularly for migrant and refugee children, this joint final conference represents a unique opportunity to consolidate efforts, share knowledge on already achieved impacts, and collectively work towards more inclusive and cohesive European societies.

Participants & Agenda

The IMMERSE & REFUGE-ED 2023 Final Conference brings together an array of stakeholders, including policymakers, educators, mental health professionals, researchers, practitioners, children, families, and civil society organizations, to collectively advance the cause of integration in Europe.
